Rotomation can start with a close frame-by-frame match to live-action performance, but it does not always have to end there. Depending on the project, we work with production rigs, client-provided rigs or our own internal rig setups, including adaptable volume and proportion controls designed to accommodate different character types and body structures.
We handle detailed rotomation for characters, performers, body parts and interacting elements, from faithful motion matching to more complex work where proportions, joint placement, anatomy or the structure of the final CG character differ from the original performance.
Sometimes an exact match is only the starting point. We can take the motion further with character animation, timing adjustments and performance corrections, opening space for creative or directorial changes while keeping the movement grounded in the original footage. This can be especially important when a captured performance needs to work differently with the final character design, CG interactions or the structure of the shot.
Over the years, we have worked on projects ranging from detailed rotomation and interaction work to character animation, often combining tracking, rigging adjustments and custom setups along the way.
