Every shot brings a different set of challenges. Reliable camera solves often depend on good parallax, multiple camera setups, LiDAR scans, survey data or reference photography. Together, these references help reconstruct the scene accurately, defining the scale, orientation and spatial relationships needed for the work that follows.
The resulting layout can range from lightweight proxy geometry to detailed production geometry for animation, cleanup, compositing or FX integration. Depending on the project, deliverables may also include organized scene layouts, point clouds, locators and other production-ready data that fit naturally into the client’s pipeline. The level of reconstruction is always driven by what the project actually needs, never by a fixed workflow.
Accurate scale and scene depth are just as important as solving the camera itself. Small inaccuracies at this stage often become much larger problems later in production, so building a reliable spatial foundation early helps every department work with greater confidence.
Our favourite projects are the ones where the visual effects simply disappear into the story. Matchmove is often the first stage of that process, connecting live-action footage with a believable 3D environment long before the final image takes shape.
As production continues to evolve, the same principles apply to AI-generated imagery. Whether working with traditional footage, AI-generated plates or hybrid productions, matchmove helps reconstruct and organize the scene so it can move confidently into the next stage of the VFX pipeline.
