Object tracking focuses on reconstructing the motion of a specific object within a shot. While camera tracking establishes how the camera moves through a scene, object tracking solves the movement of vehicles, props, products or other individual elements so they can be accurately integrated, modified or replaced in 3D.
In many shots, object tracking is solved alongside the camera and surrounding environment so everything shares the same coordinate system and scale. In other cases, only a single moving element requires its own solution. Typical examples include vehicles, machinery, handheld props, product shots, screens and mechanical components, as well as automotive work where body panels, headlights, wheels or other parts need to be updated or replaced while preserving the original motion.
The complexity increases when both the camera and tracked object are moving independently, when multiple objects interact within the same shot, or when several moving elements need to work together as part of a larger VFX or FX simulation. Reflections, motion blur, partial occlusions, changing lighting conditions and limited surface detail often make the solve more challenging. The goal is not simply to reproduce an object’s movement, but to create stable, production-ready animation that integrates naturally with the camera, surrounding scene and downstream VFX pipeline.
